Charities

March of Dimes

The leading health organization dedicated to the mission that all babies get a healthy start to life.
Strives to protect babies from illness by preventing birth defects and decreasing infant mortality. They carry out this mission through research, community services, education and advocacy to save babies' lives. March of Dimes researchers, volunteers, educators, outreach workers and advocates work together to give all babies a fighting chance against the threats to their health such as prematurity, birth defects, and low birthweight.Genetic birth defects leave children unable to walk, to hear, to think, or even to fight off disease. March of Dimes investments in genetic research already are starting to yield results. The March of Dimes is fighting so that all babies, children and pregnant women get health insurance. They educate pregnant women to know what to worry about and what not to worry about when it comes to having a healthy baby through their Pregnancy & Newborn Health Education CenterSM.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Patients do not pay for treatment beyond what is covered by insurance, and those without insurance are never asked to pay.
Discoveries made at the Hospital have completely changed how the world treats children with cancer and other catastrophic illnesses. It is where some of today's most gifted researchers are able to do more science, more quickly. Where doctors across the world send their toughest cases and most vulnerable patients. Where no one pays for treatment beyond what is covered by insurance, and those without insurance are never ask to pay. It is America's 4th-largest health-care charity, with a model that keeps the costs down and the funds flowing, so the science never stops.

I have selected these two charities because it is important for children to grow up healthy in order for them to make it to college. Our sponsorship will hopefully inspire the children with illnesses to fight against their sickness to be able to attend college and get the experience of every other college student in the world.

Patents, Trademarks, Copyrights

I do not think I can have anything patented because according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office a patent can be issued to a person who ‘invents or discovers any new and useful process, machine, manufacture, or composition of matter, or any new and useful improvement thereof.’ I am not inventing anything new; at least I don’t think I am.

I will have a servicemark, which is also know as a trademark. I still have to come up with a mark because I do not know what the name of my online website is going to be, so at this point in time I cannot be sure of what my mark is going to be. “ A trademark is a word, name, symbol, or device that is used in trade with goods to indicate the source of the goods and to distinguish them from the goods of others” (uspto.gov)

“Copyright is a form of protection provided to the authors of “original works of authorship” including literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, and certain other intellectual works, both published and unpublished. The 1976 Copyright Act generally gives the owner of copyright the exclusive right to reproduce the copyrighted work, to prepare derivative works, to distribute copies or phonorecords of the copyrighted work, to perform the copyrighted work publicly, or to display the copyrighted work publicly.” (uspto.gov)

I think I will have a copyright because every other website that I have seen possesses one. Plus, I will essentially be creating a new interface, I guess that’s what you call it, so in a sense I will be creating something new.

College-Jump.com

The Website
COLLEGE-JUMP.COM is a website designed for students to gather information about colleges and universities they might be interested in attending. The website will have condensed information regarding the schools’ type, size, demographics, and degrees offered. The website will also include other relevant information as well as dates, such as application deadline and campus-tour are being offered.

The website is designed to facilitate future college student’s search for information regarding the colleges they might be interested in attending. Our site will condense the mouse clicks and time that the students spend having to search through different college websites.

Further, our site will also contain information concerning travel, hotels, restaurants, and entertainment spots in the surrounding area of the universities. This will make it easier for parents and students to book airfare, rent-a-car, locate where they will be staying and dining, and places of entertainment that they can visit on their visit to the university of their choice. Having these services included on our website will reduce the time parents and students have to spend on travel, hotel, restaurant, and entertainment websites.

Once the investor or website ceases to exist, payments and partnership shall be terminated.
